Ronstadt will explain it all
Linda Ronstadt broke barriers for women as one of the top-selling artists of her generation, and she's going to detail how she did it in a new memoir for Simon & Schuster.
The book publisher announced Thursday that it had acquired her autobiography, titled "Heart Like a Wheel," after her Grammy-winning, multiplatinum album.
In a statement, Simon & Schuster said: "Few singers have been as wide-ranging or distinctive in their artistry."
Ronstadt sold tens of millions of records starting in the 1970s with pop hits like "You're No Good" and "When Will I Be Loved." But she also segued into country, pop standards and mariachi music, among other genres.
The book is due in 2013.
Trebek hurt in chase
"Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek says he snapped his Achilles tendon while running after a burglar who had stolen cash, a bracelet and other items from his San Francisco hotel room.
The 71-year-old Trebek tells KGO-TV that he also injured his other leg while falling down during the chase early Wednesday. He was on crutches later Wednesday when he hosted the National Geographic World Championship at Google headquarters in Mountain View, Calif.
Trebek is scheduled for surgery today and is expected to be in a cast for six weeks.
ALMA nominees
Christina Aguilera and Selena Gomez are the leading nominees for the ALMA Awards, which honor the artistic accomplishments of Latinos in music, television and film.
The National Council of La Raza announced the nominations Thursday.
Aguilera and Gomez are each up for three awards for their work in music and on the big and small screens. Both are nominated in the female music artist category and for favorite movie actress in a comedy or musical — Aguilera for "Burlesque" and Gomez for "Monte Carlo." Aguilera was also nominated for reality TV personality for her work on "The Voice." Gomez is up for favorite TV actress in a comedy for "Wizards of Waverly Place."
Joe Pesci is annoyed
Joe Pesci claims the makers of a biopic on the Gotti family have made him an offer he can refuse — a lesser part in the movie and a $2 million salary cut.
The actor sued Fiore Films on Wednesday, seeking the $3 million he said he was promised to play the role of a childhood friend and enforcer of crime boss John Gotti Sr.
Pesci claims the company used his name and likeness to promote the movie and attract investors, but now doesn't want to honor its original offer to him. He has been offered a lesser role for a $1 million payday, the lawsuit stated.
