Weekend events: Engineering Expo, bluegrass festival, Black History Month celebration
Engineering Expo at Century II
The 17th annual Engineering Expo is happening from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Century II Exhibition Hall, 225 W. Douglas. The free event – which aims to teach kids about science technology, engineering and math – will have hands-on activities for kids in kindergarten through eighth grade, and kids will be able to take home items they make. Workshops will also be held for kids in sixth through eighth grades. The Cosmosphere, Exploration Place and the Kansas Aviation Museum are a few of the organizations that will be present. Black History Month celebration
Celebrate Black History Month at the Kansas African American Museum during its annual black history program from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Songs, poetry and other media will be part of the celebration. The exhibit “Selma to Montgomery: The Long Walk to Freedom” will also be on display at the museum, 601 N. Water. The program is free; admission to the exhibit is $5.50 for adults, $4.50 for seniors and students and $2.50 for children ages 5-17. Winter Bluegrass Festival
The 26th Annual Winter Bluegrass Festival will feature national and regional bluegrass acts including Tennessee Mafia Jug Band, Nothing Fancy, Jerry Butler and the Blue J’s, and youth band KBA Treblemakers. There will also be workshops, vendors and, of course, jamming. The festival takes place from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Wichita Marriott, 9100 Corporate Hills Drive.
