Fall is full of fun eating opportunities in Wichita

Old Cowtown Wine Mosey, 4-8 p.m. Sept. 18, Old Cowtown Museum, 1865 W. Museum Blvd.: An annual wine-tasting event, the Wine Mosey includes a barbecue dinner by the Wichita Wagonmasters, appetizers, stagecoach rides, gunfight re-enactments, saloon girls, antique bowling and a live auction. All proceeds will go to supporting and maintaining the museum collection and to educate elementary school children on Wichita in the 1870s. AmberFest, noon-3 p.m. Sept. 24, Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, 300 S. Sycamore: This beer-sampling event is a new component to AmberWaves, a beer stroll fundraiser started by Starkey. Attendees will be able to sample from 150 Oktoberfest and German beers, specialty one-off brews and hard ciders from California, Colorado and Kansas; listen to music from DJ Carbon; play games; and dine at food trucks such as B.S. Sandwich Press, Funky Monkey Munchies, Let’m Eat Brats, Noble House Hawaiian Plate Lunch and Sunflower Espresso. Tickets are $50 or $90 if purchased along with a ticket to AmberWaves and are available at www.amberwavesict.com or by phone at 316-494-7598

AmberWaves, 6-9 p.m. Sept. 22, West Douglas in Delano: This Starkey fundraiser invites ticket holders to stroll along West Douglas in Delano, stopping for beer and food samples at 13 participating businesses, including All Things BBQ, The Chocolate Fountain, The Monarch and Ruben’s Mexican Grill. Tickets are $50 or $90 if purchased along with a ticket to AmberFest and are available at www.amberwavesict.com or by phone at 316-494-7598.

Wichita Wine Opener, 7-9 p.m. Sept. 29, Century II Exhibition Hall Balcony, 225 W. Douglas: This party, which raises money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, is in its seventh year and will have food from several Wichita restaurants plus wine-tasting stations. It usually draws a crowd of around 500. Tickets are $75 or $100 for a VIP ticket and are available at https://finest.cff.org/activity/cystic-fibrosis-foundation/wichitafinest.

ICT Burger Battle, 5-8:30 p.m. Oct. 1, Spaghetti Works parking lot and Naftzger Park, 600 block of East Douglas in downtown Wichita: This burger contest, a fundraiser for KETCH, is in its fourth year and has a new location. (Last year, it was at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.) Ticket holders can sample burgers made by local restaurants and enjoy a concert by Moreland & Arbuckle. The event also includes a car show. Those in attendance get to vote who made the best burger: Beautiful Day Cafe, Blarney Stone, Dempsey’s Burger Pub, Fizz Burgers & Bottles, Burnout Bar & Grill, Intrust Bank Arena/SAVOR, Emerson Biggins, Five Guys or Harvest Kitchen & Bar. Tickets are $50 for burgers and the concert or $20 for the concert only. A $75 VIP ticket includes all that plus early entry. They’re available at ictburgerbattle.com.

Bloktoberfest, noon-11 p.m. Oct. 8, Union Station Plaza: The big new plaza in front of the just-renovated Union Station in downtown Wichita will be broken in this fall with an old-fashioned Oktoberfest party put on by Xclusive Event Services. It will be on the Union Station plaza and along the street that goes between Union Station and the Rock Island Depot building and will include music, local and seasonal October beers, pretzels and a sausage contest, in which local businesses will compete to create the best sausage. Tickets range from $35 for sausage and beer sampling and a free shirt or $15 for individual events. There’s also a $75 VIP package that includes everything. St. George 83rd Annual Lebanese Dinner and Food Sale, 4-8 p.m. Oct. 8 and noon-7 p.m. Oct. 9, St. George Orthodox Christian Cathedral, 7515 E. 13th St.: One of Wichita’s most popular church fundraisers, this dinner offers meals of cabbage rolls, kibbe, a rice and green bean dish called ruz and yuknee, salad, pita bread and a serving of sweet, sticky baklava. It also includes country kitchen selling trays of Lebanese favorites and baked goods to go. Pre-set meals are $16, or $8 for ages 10 and under, and the food is available for dine-in or to-go. Tickets and information are available by calling 316-636-4676.

Wichita Asian Festival, 5:30-10 p.m. Oct. 29, Century II, 225 W. Douglas: The 36th installment of this event by the Wichita Asian Association includes cultural presentations and the big draw: a room full of Asian food vendors selling everything from Vietnamese sandwiches to Chinese dumplings.
