Not long after the Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV in 2020, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo brought a replica Lombardi Trophy for one of his favorite bars.

This one is located in South Philadelphia.

Big Charlie’s Saloon is the place for Chiefs fans in the Philly area to gather, whether it’s game day or just your average Friday. Although the Chiefs did play on Friday this past season, so perhaps that’s not a great example.

Owner Paul Staico has been a huge Chiefs fan since their defeated the Vikings in Super Bowl IV and won his dad a large amount of money on a wager. Some of the winnings were used for a new bicycle for his son and a Chiefs had a new fan.

“That was it for me,” Staico told The Star in 2023.

Big Charlie’s has become so well known for being a Chiefs bar in Philly that NFL Films did a feature on the saloon after KC won Super Bowl LIV.

However, fans won’t be gathering for Super Bowl LIX.

With the Chiefs set to face the Eagles in the Super Bowl this Sunday, Staico made the difficult decision to close Big Charlie’s for the game.

“Big Charlie’s will be closed on Super Bowl Sunday, 2/9/25,” the saloon wrote on X. “We looked into several options , but we feel closing is our best option. We like to thank our patrons for a great season. Go Chiefs!”

When the Chiefs defeated the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII in 2023, Big Charlie’s was open for its regulars but was closed to the public.

The Star’s Vahe Gregorian wrote about Spanguolo’s ties to Philly in 2023, noting that he met his wife, Maria, in the City of Brotherly Love. That’s where Maria grew up and the couple still has a home.

If the Chiefs can beat the Eagles on Sunday, perhaps Spagnuolo will return with another Lombardi trophy.
