Swap meet to remain at Pavilions

It’s official: the Sunflower Charity Swap Meet will not be going to a new location next year as it moves into new ownership.

John Saindon, who bought the rights to the show from the Wichita A’s car club, said he was recently approached by the owners of the Kansas Pavilions about keeping the swap meet there.

“We had entertained another venue, and I think that would have worked out, but it would not have been as big. We decided in the long run that leaving the show where it has thrived would be the best,” Saindon said. He said improvements planned at the Pavilions, including paving areas that were formerly dirt, helped sway his decision.

“We’re going to have more space available and we should be able to bring back the car barn,” he said.

He said he believes the fact that all of the proceeds from the swap meet will go to local charities also helped bring the process around full circle.

Setup for the 2016 Sunflower Charities Swap Meet will be Feb. 4, with the swap meet open for business as usual on Feb. 5-6.
