Andover picked up its first win of the season as Jonathan Nye scored three touchdowns.

Andover broke open the game with two quick scores in the third quarter. Valley Center fumbled away the second half kickoff, leading to one Trojans TD, then the Hornets fumbled on their first play from scrimmage on the next possession to set up another Andover TD.

Nye rushed for 121 yards. Valley Center quarterback Tate Anderson passed for 140 yards.

Touchdowns from Drew Gehrer and Josh Keiter helped the host Cardinals rally for their first victory, handing Chaparral its first loss.

Gehrer’s 15-yard catch from Joe Hubener made it a 14-12 deficit with 7:45 to play, then the Cardinals concentrated on their ground game. Cheney had 117 fourth-quarter rushing yards, taking the lead on Keiter’s 2-yard run with 1:39 to go. That capped a 45-yard drive.

Cheney’s Brian Dewey completed 8 of 12 passes for 111 yards.

Justin Alexander’s 2-yard touchdown run with 27 seconds left in the fourth quarter gave Clearwater the victory.

Clearwater led 10-0 at halftime, but Circle rallied and went ahead 21-17 in the fourth quater on Jordan Phillips’ second touchdown of the night.

Jarrod Nickelson led the Clearwater attack with 208 rushing yards. He opened the scoring with a 44-yard run in the first quarter.

Derby quarterback Tyler Harrison passed for 322 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Panthers to a come-from-behind win at Maize. Harrison connected with Ethan Jewell for the game-winning touchdown on a 30-yard pass with just more than seven minutes to play.

Jewell finished with 123 receiving yards and teammate Keenan Sparks added 114 yards.

Scott Hendricks led Maize with 158 rushing yards and one touchdown. The Eagles led 14-0 after the first quarter and 24-14 after three quarters.

It was Derby’s first win and Maize’s first loss.
