Thursday's Quarterfinals

3 P.M.

No. 8 Meade (10-13) —A three-pointer by the Buffaloes' Tatum Hansen at the buzzer beat top-seeded Cimarron in the sub-state title game. Kinzie Friesen leads Meade with 12 points and 8 rebounds.

No. 1 Oxford (20-3) —The Wildcats carry a nine-game winning streak into state and have given up more than 40 points just one time. Oxford's three losses have come to state qualifiers Argonia (Class 1A DII, twice) and CedarVale/Dexter (1A DI). The Wildcats have been led by senior co-captains, forwards Katie Norris (5-5) and Sarah White (5-7) and guard Miss Swanson (5-4).


No. 5 Valley Falls (17-6) —Valley Falls enters state winning 10 of its last 11. The team averages 8.8 steals a game, led by senior guard Abbey Kearney. Kearney is the Dragons top scorer at 15.8 points and rebounder 7.2.

No. 4 Ell-Saline (17-6) —Ell-Saline is playing in the state tournament for the first time. The Cardinals, who beat Plainville 52-45 in the sub-state title game, are led by Mariah Jones (14.4 points, 3.8 steals. Darriane Wikoff pulls in 5.9 rebounds a game.


No. 7 Jayhawk-Lynn (13-10) —After eliminating top-seeded Burlingame in the sub-state semi-finals, the Jayhawks knocked off Madison-Hamilton in overtime in the championship game. Baylea White paces Jayhawk-Lynn with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Chelsea Beckman averages 4.0 steals and and 4.5 assists.

No. 2 Oakley (18-5) —Oakley is back in the state tournament for the first since winning the 2A title in 2007. They're able to put up some impressive offense with four double-digit scorers in seniors Hannah Hubert (21.0), Jill Dennis (14.0), and juniors Brooke Hemmert 13.0 and junior Kenzie Weiser (10.0).


No. 6 Republic County (15-8) —All of Republic County's losses have come against Class 4A and 3A teams. The Buffaloes are heading into state on a high note after beating undefeated Washington County in the sub-state title game. Celsey Beneda lead Republic County in points (9.5), rebounds (4.8) and steals (1.8).

No. 3 Moundridge (18-5) —The Wildcats hope a schedule that included state qualifiers Little River (1A), Ell-Saline (2A), Hillsboro (3A) and Haven (4A) will be a benefit. Moundridge is led by Taylor Schrag at 15.7 points, followed by MacKenzie Suderman at 9.7 points.
