Carroll gets revenge on rival

Bishop Carroll's boys entered Monday's game at Kapaun with a chip on its shoulder, most of it coming from their Dec. 17 loss to the Crusaders on Carroll's home court.

Monday night, the Eagles simply put all that frustration behind them and won 66-51.

"We came in here and wanted this one pretty badly," guard Tanner Palmore said.

Behind Palmore and Jordan Bieberle, the Eagles beat up on Kapaun (7-9, 4-8 CL). The guards were 7 for 7 from three-point range in the first half. With four seconds left before halftime, Jordan made a three from the corner to give Carroll a 31-14 lead.

"Tanner and Jordan shot it pretty good in the first half," Carroll coach Lonnie Lollar said.

They cooled off in the second half as Bieberle missed all four of his three-point attempts and Palmore added a layup and two free throws. But the Eagles didn't need it. Instead, Carroll (10-6, 7-6) kept its poise offensively by controlling the tempo and Kapaun got no closer than 13.

"I think right from the start we settled for shooting threes and weren't very aggressive," Crusaders coach Bernie Pearson said. "One shot and done, and then they went down and passed it seven, eight times and got easy baskets. We didn't respond. We weren't very good from the start. (Carroll) built momentum and did a good job. They deserved to win."

Bieberle's 16 points in the first half were enough to give him the game's scoring high. Palmore finished with 15. The Eagles were 15 of 17 from the free-throw line, all in the second half.

Kapaun made 16 of 17.

Michael Martin and Taylor Floyd had 12 points apiece.
