Thursday's tournament roundup (Jan. 27)

East's girls basketball team took the lead early and held on all night, beating Collegiate 63-54 in the El Dorado tournament on Thursday.

East led 18-9 after the opening quarter and 34-23 at halftime. Collegiate sliced into the lead in the second half but East prevailed.

Relina Johnson led the way for East with 24 points, and Sawyer Hobbs added 12.

Ashia Woods scored 22 for Collegiate.

Northwest 49, Leavenworth 33 — Northwest's T. Nolen held Leavenworth's Charmaine Burns to one point in the second half as the Grizzlies opened with a win in Lawrence.

Burns scored 16 points in the first half, including three three-pointers in the first quarter.

Alaina Shine led Northwest with 12 points and nine rebounds. The Grizzlies also got 10 points each from Brianna Caldwell and Cassidy Harbert.

Blue Valley 36, Carroll 30 — Blue Valley scored the game's first nine points and Carroll trailed by 14 at halftime.

The Eagles battled back, and Kathryn Mies scored five in a row in the fourth quarter to get Carroll within 34-30 with just more than three minutes to play, but Carroll didn't score again.

Sarah Balderas led Carroll with 11 points.
