Andover Central lost its first game in over a year, a 49-44 setback against Salina Central in its season opener Friday night.

The Jaguars dug themselves into a hole early with turnovers.

Andover Central turned the ball over 11 times in the first half, and Salina Central capitalized by taking a 32-19 lead into the half, thanks to a 10-point showing by Shaeylin Martin.

Heights 89, North 19 — The top-ranked Falcons started on an 18-0 run as their trap defense overwhelmed the Redskins.

Four players scored at least 14 points for Heights, which forced 47 turnovers. Katie Palmer scored 19 to lead the Falcons, and Mary Sims came off the bench to score 17. Jhasmin Bowen scored half of her 16 points from the free-throw line and Taylor Chandler scored 14.

Heights led 60-15 at halftime and 85-16 after three quarters, and the teams used a running clock in the fourth.
