Scantlin becomes three-time champion

Mulvane’s Anthony Scantlin became a three-time state champion Saturday by winning the 152-pound championship in the Class 4A tournament in Salina.

Scantlin defeated Pratt’s Nick Lucas 5-0 to complete a 42-0 season.

A senior, Scantlin started his run of championships with a 132-pound crown in 2015, then followed it up with the 145-pound title last year.

Anthony Capul of Andale successfully defended his 195-pound championship with a 3-2 victory over Bonner Springs’ Sean Singleton, but the Indians lost their team lead from Friday and finished third.

At 113 pounds, Maize South’s Jayson West got his second victory over Clearwater’s Darryl Rylant to capture the championship. West won Saturday’s match 3-1 after defeating Rylant in last week’s regional final.

Dylan Pelland of Pratt finished 29-2 and won at 120 pounds, defeated Colby’s Tate Carney 7-2.

Austin Eldredge of McPherson beat Andale’s Zach Eck 7-6 in the 138-pound final.

El Dorado’s Dacota Motter (33-1) beat Holton’s Tyler Price 7-0 at 170 pounds.
