2-1A baseball/softball: Medicine Lodge blanks Ellis

Ethan Hargett pitched Medicine Lodge to a 5-0 victory over Ellis in the Class 2-1A baseball quarterfinals Thursday in Great Bend.

Medicine Lodge was held to four hits, but a four-run fifth inning helped the Indians take command. Ellis committed four errors in the game.

Medicine Lodge (15-7) will take on Sacred Heart (8-14) in Friday’s first semifinal.

Sacred Heart 3, Sedan 2 – It’s been a tough state-tournament year for the Sedan boys teams.

In March, the Red Devils’ boys basketball team entered the Class 2A tournament with a 23-0 record but lost to Hill City in the quarterfinals.

Thursday, the Sedan baseball team entered the Class 2-1A tournament at 21-1, but lost to Sacred Heart in the quarterfinals.

Sedan trailed 3-0 in the sixth inning before rallying to within 3-2.

Udall 5, Medicine Lodge 2 – Second-seeded Udall improved to 21-3 with the quarterfinal victory. Medicine Lodge ended the season 11-13.

Sedan 5, Pittsburg Colgan 3 – Top-seed Sedan topped Colgan to reach the semifinals with a 23-1 record. Colgan ended its season 6-18.
