Connor Sevier scored 14 points and Chris Taylor had 11 to lead Independent to a 47-45 victory over Central Plains League-rival Conway Springs in a Class 3A boys basketball sub-state semifinal on Thursday night in Cheney.
Independent (16-6) advances to meet Garden Plain in Saturday’s sub-state final. Conway Springs finished the season 17-5.
Independent took a 25-18 halftime lead, but Conway Springs rallied to within two points in the third quarter. Josh Dugan had 20 points to lead the Cardinals.

South 73, Hutchinson 41 – South (12-9) scored 42 first-half points to cruise to a sub-state win and will play host to Northwest in Saturday’s final. Dawson Gunter (19 points) led three Titans in double figures. Kolby Holmberg had 16 points for Hutchinson (2-19).
Northwest 63, Campus 58 – Visiting Northwest (6-15) rallied with 28 fourth-quarter points to beat Campus (5-16) and advance to Saturday’s sub-state final at South. Lorenzo Ruffin had 16 points to lead Northwest. Noah Moody led Campus with 21 points.
Garden Plain 39, Cheney 35 – Alex Mannebach scored 14 points and visiting Garden Plain (18-4) rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Cheney and advance to meet Independent in Saturday’s sub-state final. Trent Scheer led Cheney (13-9) with 11 points.
