Rachel Hastings and Anna Roulston led four Kapaun Mount Carmel players in double figures as the Crusaders traveled to Emporia and won 56-52 in a Class 5A girls sub-state basketball game Thursday night.
Kapaun (11-10) pulled off the upset behind 12 each from Roulston and Hastings and 11 each from Brenna Monty and Jayce Heiman.
Kapaun will play at Newton on Saturday in a sub-state final. Emporia finished 15-6.

Goddard 52, Eisenhower 47 – Host Goddard held Eisenhower to 13 first-half points then held on in the second half to advance. Samantha Schwab had 16 points and C.J. Wilhelm had 14 for Goddard (17-4), which will play Maize South in a Saturday sub-state final. Jaden Damon had 21 points for Eisenhower (6-15).
Newton 41, Salina South 25 – Payton Roberts and Kyndal Bacon scored 10 points each to lead the host Railers (16-5), who will play host to Kapaun in a Saturday sub-state final.
Maize 44, Liberal 37 – Liberal led 28-16 in the third quarter after scoring the period’s first 14 points, but Maize rallied in the fourth quarter to force overtime and held Liberal to two points from there. Brecken Roe had 11 points for Maize (15-6), which will play host to Carroll on Saturday in a sub-state final.
Augusta 43, Circle 41 – Visiting Augusta (9-12) led almost the entire way to advance to a Saturday sub-state final against Andale, which upset Andover Central. Clarice Dalziel, Kylie McDaniel and Jayden Marlnee had eight points each for Augusta.
Wellington 56, Mulvane 16 – Grace Mitchell scored 22 points to lead the unbeaten Crusaders (21-0) to Saturday’s sub-state final against Rose Hill. Emma Chambers had eight points for Mulvane (1-20).
Rose Hill 46, Winfield 19 – The host Rockets held a 17-0 lead after one quarter. Sarah Sissel had 11 points and Mackenzie Herman 10 for Rose Hill (13-8), which will play at Wellington on Saturday night.
Ottawa 43, El Dorado 32 – Jolie Howland scored 13 points for El Dorado, which finished 7-14.
Trinity Academy 53, Parsons 43 – Kaleigh Schrag had 20 points to lead Trinity (11-10), which will face Collegiate on Saturday.
Collegiate 44, Clearwater 38 – Loan’Anh Johnson scored 19 points and Kennedy Brandenburg had 10 to lead Collegiate (8-13) to a road win. Collegiate plays at Trinity Academy on Saturday night. Hayley Reibenspies had 14 points and Alli Klausmeyer had 13 for Clearwater (6-15).
