A 16-win Garden Plain girls basketball team trailed one-win Chaparral by seven points at halftime Friday night, but turned on the offense in the third quarter and eventually won 61-41 in a Central Plains League game at Chaparral.
Chaparral, led by Taylor Bergman’s 18 points, led 24-17 at halftime before Garden Plain (17-2, 7-1 CPL) went on a 26-7 third-quarter spurt. Lauren Costello’s 17 points led the Owls, who remain a game behind Conway Springs in the CPL standings.
South 88, West 10 – Fourteen Titans scored in a 78-point win at West. Ericka Mattingly led unbeaten South with 14 points.
Kapaun 49, East 34 – Megan Lickteig had 16 points to lead Kapaun at home. Lashaya Lawrie had 14 to lead East.
Heights 71, Southeast 32 – The Falcons (13-5) scored 27 points in the first quarter and never looked back, as Athena Alvarado led the scoring with 16 points and Whitlee Teague added 11. Southeast (2-17) was led by eight points from Talia Collins and Wynter Rentas.
Northwest 41, North 33 – Northwest outscored North 18-9 in the fourth quarter to win. Cori Carson had 14 points to lead Northwest, while Danisha Brown led North with 18 points.
Andale 49, Clearwater 23 – Andale bolted to a 27-7 lead in a Division IV victory. Jill Bergkamp led Andale with 10 points.
Eisenhower 57, Valley Center 51 – Jaden Damon (27), Mallory Miller (20) and Macy Omli (10) were host Eisenhower’s only scorers in a Division II victory. Kylie Webber had 24 points for Valley Center, which rallied despite scoring 12 first-half points.
Maize 41, Salina South 29 – Brecken Roe scored 23 points and Maize (13-5, 7-3 Division I) poured it on in the second half to win in Salina.
Circle 58, Mulvane 32 – A 17-4 second quarter helped host Circle to a Division IV win. Kallie Martin had 15 to lead Circle, while Emma Chambers had 15 for Mulvane.
Maize South 57, Andover 29 – Jaelynn McLaurian scored 26 points to help Maize South dominate host Andover.
Rose Hill 44, Buhler 27 – Mackenzie Herman scored 19 points and Anna Van Driel had 16 for visiting Rose Hill in a Division III win. The Rockets trailed 19-15 at halftime.
Wellington 60, Collegiate 48 – Avery Rusk had 24 points and Grace Mitchell 22 for visiting Wellington. Loan’Anh Johnson had 17 points to lead Collegiate.
Salina Central 61, Campus 45 – Cheyenne Bosley had 16 points and Kortney Schutt 14 in the Colts’ road loss.
Central Plains League
Conway Springs 47, Medicine Lodge 28 – Conway’s offense turned up the heat in the second half for a CPL victory. Halie Jones’ 12 points led the Cardinals (16-3, 8-0), while Emily Hrencher had 13 for Medicine Lodge.
Independent 56, Trinity Academy 48 – Independent (12-7, 5-3) led 38-20 at halftime and held off its Central Plains rival. Lea Coaccetella led Independent with 12 points, while Alex Bearup scored 19 and Kaleigh Schrag 12 for Trinity (9-10, 4-4).
Cheney 55, Douglass 33 – A 17-0 third quarter turned a one-point lead into a rout for host Cheney. Haley Albers led the Cardinals (13-6, 7-1) with 17 points.
