Boys roundup: Brock Monty’s 31 points helps Kapaun topple East

Senior Brock Monty scored 31 points and Kapaun Mount Carmel used a big first half to upset East’s boys 76-71 on Friday night at Kapaun in a City League basketball game.

Kapaun (11-7, 7-7 CL) took a 42-29 halftime lead after scoring 23 second-quarter points.

Xavier Kelly had 18 points and Elijah Kelly had 14 for East (12-6, 10-4).

City League

North 77, Northwest 60 – Tiylar Cotton’s 21 points led four North players with more than 15 points in a 17-point win at Northwest. Kace Vongsakda had 18 points, Peyton Hatter 17 and Hunter Shockley 16 for North (5-14, 4-11). Michael Duncan had 18 points to lead Northwest (5-13, 4-10).

South 66, West 38 – Jariah Taylor had 15 points to lead South (9-9, 6-8), while Brandon Brickhouse’s 15 points led West (4-14, 2-12).

AV-CTL

Collegiate 82, Wellington 48 – Cameron Christian had 14 points and Cody McNerney 12 for Collegiate (15-3, 7-1), which remained a game behind Andale in Division IV.

Andale 44, Clearwater 37 – Jeffery Ast’s 12 points led Andale in a Division IV home victory. Andale is 16-2, 8-0 in Division IV.

Andover Central 75, Goddard 45 – Goddard cut a 15-point deficit to nine in the third quarter at Andover Central (15-4, 9-2 Division II), but the Jaguars ended the period with a 22-2 run. Darraja Parnell led Andover Central with 18 points, while Cole Taylor added 13 and Eyan Curtis had 11. Goddard (8-10, 4-6) was led by Bryant Mocaby’s 16 points.

Salina Central 54, Campus 35 – Tyler Kahmann led Campus with 10 points in the Division I road loss.

Augusta 60, Labette County 41 – Augusta outscored Labette County 25-9 in the fourth quarter to pull away. Logan Weakley’s 21 points led the Orioles.

Maize 52, Salina South 49 – The visiting Eagles held Salina South to six fourth-quarter points for a Division I win, clinching at least a tie for the division title. Jacob Schultz led Maize with 16 points.

Andover 74, Maize South 64 – Chase Oberg’s 17 points led the host Trojans (9-10, 7-4) to a Division II victory. Payten Ricks had 24 points to lead Maize South (9-9, 4-6).

Derby 61, Newton 45 – Junior guard Nyjee Wright scored 28 points, and the Panthers (12-7, 7-4) outscored the Railers in every quarter for the AVCTL Division I victory. Senior Tevin Berry led Newton (6-12, 3-7) with 18 points.

Eisenhower 85, Valley Center 71 – Dylan Vincent and Sonny Brown scored 23 points each, and Matt Pile had 20 for host Eisenhower (17-1, 9-1 Division II) in its win. Tyler Brown scored 26 for Valley Center (7-9, 2-8).

Central Plains League

Cheney 80, Douglass 52 – Noah Schomacker led four Cardinals in double figures and Cheney (12-7, 7-1) scored 47 first-half points. Cheney remains tied with Garden Plain for first place in the CPL.

Garden Plain 55, Chaparral 31 – Zach May scored 24 points and Alex Becker had 13 for Garden Plain (15-4, 7-1), which stayed in a first-place tie with Cheney.

Conway Springs 48, Medicine Lodge 44 – Conway scored 20 fourth-quarter points to rally past visiting Medicine Lodge.
