Girls roundup: Independent rallies to beat Trinity Academy

Trailing by seven points entering the fourth quarter, Independent’s girls basketball team rallied to beat Trinity Academy on Friday night at Trinity.

Independent outscored Trinity 15-6 in the fourth quarter.

Riley Jackson had 11 points and Elizabeth Petrakis had 10 for Independent (5-3). Alex Bearup had 14 points and Kayleigh Schrag had 12 for Trinity (3-5).

City League

South 54, Kapaun 20 – Unbeaten South held Kapaun to 12 points over the final 24 minutes. Ericka Mattingly led South with a season-high 20 points and Trezure Jobe added 12.

Carroll 62, West 22 – Ashley Carrillo scored 18 points and Abby Sauber added 12 for visiting Carroll, which raced to a 44-10 halftime lead. Alicia Ross led West with 11 points.

Heights 63, East 25 — Heights improved to 6-1 behind 15 points from Athena Alvarado and 13 points from Analyss Benally, who also hit three three-pointers. The Falcons led 10-0 after the first quarter and pushed the lead to 32-10 at halftime.

Northwest 62, Southeast 28 – Dejanae Arnold had 19 points and Alajah Fitchpatrick had 13 to lead host Northwest. Natoria McCoy led Southeast with 15.

AV-CTL

Valley Center 64, Eisenhower 26 – Kylie Webber had 15 points and Kennedy Weaver added 11 for the host Hornets. Jaden Damon had 16 to lead Eisenhower.

Goddard 42, Andover 25 – Jessica Gardiner and Sam Schwab had 14 points each to lead visiting Goddard to a Division II win. Goddard led 27-7 at halftime.

McPherson 50, Augusta 32 – Augusta made a first-half comeback to make it a game at halftime against McPherson, but the visiting Bullpups took control for good in the third quarter. Madison Wheeler had 14 points and Jayden Marlnee 12 for the Orioles.

Clearwater 39, Mulvane 25 – Mulvane was shut out in the third quarter of a Division IV defeat. Hayley Reibenspies and Lexi Cotham had 12 points each for Clearwater, while Emma Chambers’ 14 led Mulvane.

Andover Central 49, Arkansas City 40 – Amanda Kakoulis’ 12 points led the host Jaguars to a Division II win.

Andale 30, Collegiate 14 – Jill Bergkamp had 12 points to lead host Andale, which held Collegiate to no more than four points in any quarter.

Rose Hill 69, El Dorado 51 – Mackenzie Herman had 26 points and Anna Van Driel had 21 as the visiting Rockets won.

Salina Central 69, Campus 52 – Cheyenne Bosley had 21 points and Kortney Schutt had 17 for host Campus.

Maize 52, Salina South 30 – Maize’s strong second half helped the Eagles pull away. The Eagles outscored Salina South 28-15 in the second half on the way to their fifth victory. Taylor Holmes’ 13 points led Maize.

Central Plains League

Conway Springs 38, Medicine Lodge 33 – Hallie Jones had 15 points to lead visiting Conway Springs. Emily Hrencher’s 20 points led Medicine Lodge.

Garden Plain 50, Bluestem 16 – Daylynn Doyle had 11 points and Madison Schmelzer and Taylor Joplin added 10 each for visiting Garden Plain.
