OLATHE – As early as the drive back home on Saturday afternoon, the Maize boys tennis team was already evaluating the field and talking about its chances in next year’s Class 6A tournament.
Coach John Anderson attributed their anticipation to the improvements each member of the team made in the standings as well as their ability to return every member next year.
“Usually at this part of the season, the kids are ready to get it over with,” Anderson said. “Now, they want to know what’s under the Christmas tree for Christmas morning. They are like, ‘This is will be fun. We’re ready for next year.’ ”
Sophomore Mike Medaris, who was the only Wichita-area player to make it to Day 2, made the biggest jump, finishing 10th. It was his second medal after finishing 12th a year ago.
