Boys roundup: Conley’s 33 points paces Derby

James Conley scored 33 points and helped Derby to a 72-59 victory over visiting Salina South in an Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I boys game Tuesday night.

Conley helped Derby recover from an eight-point first-quarter deficit, as the Panthers scored 31 second-quarter points for a nine-point halftime advantage.

Keaton Steadman added 14 points for Derby, while Trace Kochevar led Salina South with 13 points.

City League

Heights 68, Southeast 56 – Heights took control with a 34-22 halftime lead and wasn’t threatened in the second half. Chris Lowe led the Falcons with 24 points, while Davon Gill had 16, Semaj Hervey 12 and Arie Johnson 10.

Northwest 69, North 57 – John Short scored 21 points to help Northwest to a home victory. Teammate K’Veion Richard had 13 points and Nick Williams had 10, while North was led by Keandre Champion’s 12 points.

South 63, West 55 – Dawson Gunter and Daran Lee scored 18 points each as South beat a West team looking for its first victory. Terrell Rodriguez had 18 points to pace West.


Andale 59, Clearwater 31 – Andale hopped to a 25-7 halftime lead to cruise to a Division IV victory. Avery Roe had 19 points and Jeffery Ast 10 for the Indians. Collin Neises led Clearwater with 15 points.

Augusta 57, El Dorado 44 – Connor Hurst’s 21 points paced the Orioles in a home victory. Chaydon Carter added 12 for Augusta, while Alec Hildreth led El Dorado with 25 points.

Circle 67, Mulvane 46 – The host Thunderbirds got 19 points from Cal Hartley and 18 from Brendon Horyna. Jace Price had 21 points to lead Mulvane.

Eisenhower 58, Andover 47 – Andover led by three entering the fourth quarter but was outscored 23-9 in the period. Eisenhower was led by Matt Pile’s 17 points and 14 each from Bailey Strunk and Jack Taliaferro. Austin Brown had 17 to lead Andover.

Newton 53, Campus 42 – Host Newton trailed by one in the fourth quarter, then rallied for 20 points in the period for an 11-point Division I victory. Riley Kingsley had 13 and Jack Kingsley 12 for the Railer, while Mario Ponds had 16 points to pace Campus.

Valley Center 47, Arkansas City 39 – Nathan Brown scored 13 points and Tyler Brown had 12 as Valley Center took control with a strong third quarter. Skyler Bryant had 16 to lead Ark City.

Central Plains League

Cheney 42, Garden Plain 40 – Host Cheney rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Garden Plain, overcoming Alex Becker’s 19 points.

Conway Springs 49, Douglass 35 – Matthew Leddy had 12 poitns and Dylan Murphy 10 as the Cardinals won at home. Spencer Nethercot had 10 to pace Douglass.

Independent 75, Belle Plaine 39 – Chris Taylor scored 16 points and Chad Eikleberry added 14 as Independent won a CPL home game.

Trinity Academy 83, Bluestem 36 – Matt Jones scored 19 points and the visiting Knights scored 55 first-half points in their victory. Cooper Minnick led Bluestem with 14 points.
