Girls roundup: Carroll revs up in second half to pound East

Leading 22-18 at halftime, Bishop Carroll used a big second half to beat East 60-44 in a City League girls basketball game Friday night at East.

Shelby Lopez led the Eagles (3-1) with 20 points, including a pair of three-pointers, as Carroll scored 17 points in each of the final two quarters. Madi Youngers added 12 points for Carroll and 6-foot sophomore Astrid Same led East (1-1) with 17 points.

City League

Kapaun 76, North 55 – Sam Bachrodt scored 26 points and had 13 of Kapaun’s 30 second-quarter points in a home rout. Kapaun, which trailed 15-7 after one quarter, also got 14 points from Grace Hagan and 13 from Brenna Monty. Danisha Brown had 14 points and Marissa Evans 13 for North.

Southeast 43, West 42 – Natoria McCoy scored 17 points to help Southeast to an overtime victory at West. Alicia Ross had 15 points and Tabitha Carter had 10 for the Pioneers.

Heights 56, Northwest 17 – Junior Analyss Benally scored 19 points and freshman reserve Trinity Conley added 14 as host Heights rolled over turnover-plagued Northwest. The Falcons (2-1) held Northwest without a field goal after the 4:35 mark of the second quarter.

AV-CTL

Eisenhower 53, Arkansas City 52 – Brynn Minor scored 19 points and helped visiting Eisenhower hold off Ark City’s fourth-quarter rally. The Bulldogs outscored Eisenhower 24-13 in the final period.

Maize 50, Hutchinson 38 – The visiting Eagles rolled to a 22-2 first-half lead, extending it to 26 points by halftime. Taylor Holmes and Keiryn Swenson had 14 points each, while Daley Handy had 11.

Tournaments

Garden City 53, Trinity Academy 36 – Caroline Zielke had 10 points to lead the Knights, who trailed 18-6 after the first quarter.

Circle 42, Life Preparatory 36 – Caylie Kifer, Leah Metzger and Katie Frankenbery had nine points each as the host Thunderbirds won, taking advantage of Life Prep’s one-point second quarter.

Garden Plain 44, Rose Hill 26 – Noelle Dooley had 13 points and helped the Owls storm to a 32-9 halftime lead in a home victory. Mackenzie Herman had 11 points to pace Rose Hill.
