Andover’s boys sent their sub-state basketball championship game to overtime with a buzzer-beating shot, then fell victim to the same thing in overtime.
Salina Central’s Rashun Allen made a banked three-pointer at the buzzer to left the Mustangs past host Andover 62-60 and gain a Class 5A tournament berth on Friday night.
Salina Central trailed by nine entering the fourth quarter but rallied before Andover’s Ryan Bezdek made a jumper at the buzzer for a 53-all tie and overtime.
In overtime, Adam DeKoning gave Andover a 60-59 lead with 2.1 seconds to play, but Central went the length of the court and got Allen’s heroics for the victory.
Hays 55, Carroll 38 — Carroll was outscored 16-1 by unbeaten Hays in a 5A sub-state final at Hays. Patrick Carney and Connor Evans had 11 points each for the Eagles.
Andover Central 71, Augusta 59 — The Jaguars advanced to a 4A-I sub-state final behind 27 points from Darraja Parnell and 12 each from Josiah Cole and Christian DeYoung. Connor Hurst led Augusta with 27.
El Dorado 70, Circle 63 — The host Wildcats will face Andover Central in the sub-state final after beating Circle. Travis House led El Dorado with 18 points, while Dylan Driver had 19 points for Circle.
Andale 63, Parsons 46 — Jeffery Ast had 20 points and Jason Hermreck added 16 for host Andale, which faces Trinity Academy in Saturday’s 4A-II sub-state final.
Trinity Academy 54, Clearwater 42 — Ben Mosley had 15 points to lead Trinity, which took control in the third quarter. Collin Neises had 14 points and Johnny Becker 13 for Clearwater.
Maize 62, Garden City 38 — Saige Baalman had 14 points and Daley Handy had 13 as the Eagles earned a 6A tournament berth by routing visiting Garden City. Maize built a 22-6 lead.
Collegiate 46, Conway Springs 38 — Collegiate won its second straight postseason game after winning three during the regular season and will play for a 3A tournament berth Saturday against Douglass. Alex Payne had 15 points and Jewell Bolden 10 for the Spartans.
