Roundup: Wheelock leads Cheney to Rupp title

Austin Wheelock had 14 points and was one of only four Cheney Cardinals who scored Saturday night, but it was enough to beat Moundridge 42-32 in the Adolph Rupp Invitational final at Halstead.

Cameron Hill had 11 points and Ty Patterson had 10 for Cheney. Garrett Higgins led Moundridge with 13 points.

Boys tournaments

Wellington 79, Kingman 77 — Trevor Nance scored 31 points and had the layup that forced overtime for Wellington in winning the Roadrunner Classic. Nance had seven fourth-quarter points and four in overtime for the Crusaders, who also got 18 points from Conner Phelps and 14 from Colin Reichenberger.

Baldwin 61, Augusta 57 — Host Baldwin held off Augusta in the fourth quarter to win its tournament. Kyler Steinkamp led four Augusta players in double figures (13 points), followed by Connor Hurst with 12 and Sean Brandenburg and Dustin McEachern with 10 each.

Andale 60, Douglass 49 — Andale scored 23 fourth-quarter points to pull away from Douglass. Jason Hermreck led the Indians with 20 points.

West 58, McCook (Neb.) 55 — Bryce Money and Caleb Moore scored 15 points each and led the Pioneers’ third-quarter comeback for a third-place finish. Money and Moore both made two three-pointers in the pivotal third quarter.

North 73, Derby 69, OT — Sean Bernard had 22 points, Zach Beard had 19 and Gage Loy had 15 points and 14 rebounds to help North beat Derby in overtime for third place at the McPherson tournament. The Redskins withstood Derby’s Jeremy Dunham, who scored 33 points, including 11 of 13 at the free-throw line.

Conway Springs 36, Clearwater 34 — The Cardinals took third place at the Chaparral tournament behind 12 points from Ross Rasmussen and 11 from Matthew Leddy. Johnny Becker led Clearwater with 17 points.

Joplin (Mo.) 68, Andover Central 58 — Andover Central finished sixth at Chanute, led Saturday by Darraja Parnell’s 31 points.

Mulvane 66, Chaparral 58 — Mulvane built a 15-point first-half lead to win fifth place at Chaparral. Jace Price had 22 points and Guner Lampe 20 for Mulvane, while Jaden Miller had 20 and Seth Williams 13 for Chaparral.

Goddard 51, Emporia 49 — Tucker Vang and Ryan Norquist had 14 points each as Goddard finished Chanute’s Ralph Miller Classic in seventh place. Goddard held off Emporia’s rally by making 8 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Carroll 56, Buhler 48 — Luke Hohl scored 17 points to lead Carroll to a seventh-place win at the McPherson tournament. Carroll pulled ahead 29-22 at halftime and extended the lead to 12 in the third quarter. Quentin Henricks had 18 for Buhler.

South 65, Northwest 48 — The Titans shot 60 percent to easily win the seventh-place game at the Topeka Invitational. Kaden Griffin had 17 points and Jordan Moore 15 for South, while Cortez Carr had 11 to lead Northwest.

Girls tournaments

Salina Central 68, Andover 44 — Jaylyn Agnew had 12 points and Hayley Meisch had 10 in the Trojans’ championship-game loss in the Salina Invitational. Brooke Peters had 13 points to lead Salina Central.

Ulysses 57, Rose Hill 47 — Autumn Lipscomb had 20 points and Kynnedy Myers 10 for Rose Hill, which finished fourth in the Coffeyville tournament. Rose Hill led by three entering the fourth quarter but gave up 29 points in the period.
