Boys roundup: Kapaun rallies in final seconds to nip Northwest

Kapaun Mount Carmel rallied for five points in the final 15 seconds Tuesday night to beat Northwest 43-42 in a City League boys basketball game at Kapaun.

Thomas O’Connor’s three-pointer made it a one-point game, then Northwest was fouled but missed a one-and-one. Kapaun got the rebound and Paul Patton drove to the basket and made the layup with 1.3 seconds to play.

Brock Monty had 12 points and Atir Cherne 10 for Kapaun, while Kaleb Cobb had 16 and Nick Williams 11 for Northwest.

Other City League

Carroll 63, West 37 — Connor Evans scored a season-high 21 points for the host Eagles, who took control with a 34-13 first half. Teammate Matt Price added 10.


Augusta 63, Clearwater 58 — Twenty-five fourth-quarter points helped the visiting Orioles win a Division IV game. Clearwater had opened a six-point lead in the fourth quarter, but Augusta rallied behind 13 points from Chaydon Carter, 12 from Kyler Steinkamp and 11 from Connor Hurst. Johnny Becker had 14 for Clearwater.

Salina South 69, Campus 39 — Justin Stonebraker had 16 points to lead South, which led 40-17 at halftime. Kellen Schutt led Campus with 13 points.

Circle 52, Wellington 48 — Dylan Driver had 16 points to lead visiting Circle. Trevor Nance had 21 points to lead Wellington.

Derby 69, Andover Central 54 — James Conley had 22 points and Jeremy Dunham had 17 to lead the Panthers to a non-division victory at Andover. Central, which was outscored 37-24 in the second half, was led by Darraja Parnell’s 10 points.

Goddard 57, Arkansas City 37 — Tucker Vang had 20 points and Austin Chippeaux had 14 for the visiting Lions. Goddard led 29-17 at halftime.

Hutchinson 47, Newton 46 — Hutchinson wiped out a six-point deficit to start the fourth quarter for a Division I road win. Jezel Parra had 14 for the Salthawks, while Jack Kingsley led Newton with 12.

Maize 57, Salina Central 36 — Jacob Horsch had 16 points and Aaron Shaw had 12 to lead visiting Maize to victory in Division I.

Andover 67, Valley Center 41 — The host Trojans took control in the second quarter for a Division II victory. Bryant Klusener and Adam DeKoning had 14 points each, while Griffin Jobe added 12. Braden Janzen and Jacob Brittain had 11 each for Valley Center.

Winfield 60, El Dorado 42 — The visiting Vikings overame an eight-point first-quarter deficit to win a Division III game. Will Adler had 24 points to lead Wnifield, while Travis House led El Dorado with 23 points.

Central Plains League

Cheney 60, Belle Plaine 15 — The visiting Cardinals held Belle Plaine to two second-half points. Tyler Amsink had 21 for Cheney, with Cameron Hill adding 18.

Trinity Academy 70, Medicine Lodge 39 — A 45-point first half helped the host Knights to a league victory. Preston Miller had 14 points and Alex Carro 11 for Trinity, while Scott Angell had 15 to lead Medicine Lodge.
