Boys roundup: Schieber leads Derby past Salina Central

Taylor Schieber scored 22 points and the visiting Derby Panthers took control of an Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League showdown in the fourth quarter Friday night, beating Salina Central 51-42 to take a two-game lead in Division I.

Derby (14-3, 8-1) also got eight points each from Josiah Ray and James Conley. The Panthers trailed 31-30 entering the fourth quarter before a big final push.

Max Kuhn had 13 points and Treyton Hines 12 for Salina Central (10-6, 6-2).

Other AV-CTL

Clearwater 60, Collegiate 55, OT — The host Indians scored off the opening tip of overtime and controlled the extra period, improving to 12-4, 4-2 in Division IV. After Collin Neises made two free throws with eight seconds to play, Collegiate’s Elliott Mann, who had 21 points, hit the game-tying basket and was fouled, but missed the go-ahead free throw. John Becker had 28 points for Clearwater.

Arkansas City 51, Maize South 41 — Kavin Harris had 13 points to lead three Ark City players in double figures. Maize South’s Logan Mormando had 10 points.

Maize 57, Campus 42 — Tavon Morrow had 19 points to lead the host Eagles (5-11, 5-4). Four players led Campus (2-14, 0-9) with six points each.

Eisenhower 66, Newton 49 — The visiting Tigers went out of division to win and improve to 15-1 behind Trevon Evans’ 20 points. Daniel Southworth added 11 points and Matt Morris 10. Gunar Drinnen had 14 to lead the Railers (4-12).

Andover 62, Goddard 47 — Adam DeKoning had 17 points and Dallas Bruner 12 for the Trojans, who improved to 12-4, 6-3 in Division II. Goddard (3-14, 3-6) was led by 10 points each from Tate Vang and Collin Nevil.

McPherson 55, El Dorado 31 — The visiting Bullpups all but sealed another Division III title, putting themselves two games ahead of El Dorado and Mulvane. Keaton Sorenson had 20 points and Kyler Kinnamon 13 for McPherson (14-2, 6-0).

Mulvane 60, Rose Hill 53 — Zach Haynes had 15 points to help Mulvane improve to 11-5, 4-2 in Division III. Rose Hill (6-11, 1-5) led by a point entering the fourth quarter.

Andover Central 61, Valley Center 39 — Darraja Parnell scored 24 points and Cameron Hurley added 14 to lead the host Jaguars (13-4, 6-2) to a Division II victory. Central trailed by eight in the first quarter but outscored Valley Center (6-10, 4-4) 23-6 in the final period. Zachery Brown had 10 for Valley Center.

Andale 64, Wellington 47 — Host Andale maintained its two-game Division IV lead with an easy win. Gerad Deaver had 20 points, Ben Seiler 14 and Jason Hermreck 12 for Andale (15-2, 6-0). Trevor Nance had 19 points for Wellington (6-11, 1-5).

City League

Northwest 64, South 42 — Northwest used a 14-0 run to open the fourth quarter, blowing open a tight game. Nick Williams scored 11 of his team-high 16 points in the second half for Northwest, helping the Grizzlies pull away from a 27-27 halftime tie. Jordan Moore led South with 19 points.

Central Plains League

Trinity Academy 59, Garden Plain 45 — Garden Plain cut Trinity’s lead to 42-40 in the first 20 seconds of the final period, but Trinity held the Owls without a fourth-quarter field goal and went on a 17-5 run for the 14-point win. Trinity’s Ryan Miller had 25 points, 11 rebounds and five steals. Garden Plain’s Denver Doyle had 13 points.

Cheney 46, Independent 44 — Taylor Hageman got a steal and made a layup in the final seconds to lift the host Cardinals (14-3, 5-1). Independent (13-4, 4-2) missed two shots at the end to tie. Cheney is now in second place by itself in the CPL, one game behind Trinity Academy.
