Boys roundup: Kapaun routs Titans

Kapaun 66, South 29 — Eleven players scored for Kapaun in a 66-29 rout of visiting South. The Crusaders hit nine three-pointers in the win and were led by 10 points from Atir Cherne, the only Kapaun player in double figures. Cherne hit two three-pointers.

Braden Hullings added nine points, but sat out the entire fourth quarter. Damien Akao came off the bench to score eight points for the Crusaders.

Kaden Griffin led South with 10 points.


Eisenhower 67, Arkansas City 40 — Junior forward Matt Morris scored 20 points and Trevon Evans added 16 points to lead Eisenhower to a rout of visiting Ark City. The win improved the Tigers to 13-1 overall and 7-0 in AV-CTL II. Brennan Stemple scored 13 points for Eisenhower while Kavin Harris led Arkansas City with 16 points.

Derby 80, Campus 52 — Derby improved to 12-3, 6-1 in Division I win the league win.

Maize 59, Hutchinson 57 — The Eagles rallied in the fourth quarter for the Division I victory, improving to 4-10, 4-3 AV-CTL I.

Goddard 39, Maize South 37 — Collin Nevil scored 12 points and Tucker Vang had 11 for Lions. Brett Barney scored 16 for Maize South, which made 1 of 6 free throws in the final quarter.

Mulvane 57, Wellington 49 — Mulvane hit 19 of 25 free throws and Jace Price led the Wildcats with 19 points in the win at Wellington. Nolan Smith added 12 points for Mulvane, while Brian Peck led Wellington with 18 points.

Rose Hill 50, Clearwater 45 — Rose Hill hit six three-pointers and got double-digit scoring from Austin Waddell (15 points), Gabe Nickel (11) and Bret Waddell (10) in the road win at Clearwater. John Becker led Clearwater with 22 points.

Salina South 61, Valley Center 48 — Salina South held off the Hornets’ rally with 24 fourth-quarter points and a game-high 27 points from Justin Stonebreaker. Braden Tormey led Valley Center with 13 points while Blake Crager added 10 points.

Central Plains League

Conway Springs 50, Belle Plaine 31 — Conway Springs’ Ross Rasmussen led all scorers with 23 points and was the only player from either team to reach double figures as the Cardinals rolled to a win over visiting Belle Plaine.

Cheney 54, Garden Plain 37 — Cheney led 34-23 at halftime and kept pouring it on in the second half. Layne Higgins led Cheney with 12 points and Gabe Schomacker added 11 points. Garden Plain did not have a player finish in double-figures scoring.

Independent 86, Bluestem 51 — Independent picked up an easy road win and improved to 3-1 in CPL play behind 20 points from Brice Dean and 12 points from Trey Williams.

Trinity Academy 64, Douglass 52 — Ryan Miller scored 18 points and Preston Miller had 13 in the Knights’ road victory. Chase Bannister had 20 points for Douglass, followed by Cody Holthaus with 16 and John Gardner with 15.
