Wichita State softball picks up two commitments and longtime coach resigns

By Joanna Chadwick

Derby senior Kennedy Long and Goddard junior Morgan Bohanan have made oral commitments to play at Wichita State. Both are strong hitters and fielders with versatile skills — in other words, ideal commitments for WSU.

I think this is great to see local studs heading to Wichita State. There’s been a lot of outstanding softball talent head out of the area, so maybe they’ll start sticking around.

Wichita State women’s basketball also has offered several area players — South’s Kirea Rogers and Kendrian Elliott, Andover’s Jaylyn Agnew. That’s good to see, too.

In other news, Goddard girls basketball coach Lee Keller has resigned. He coached the Lions for 18 seasons and won 309 games. It’s an impressive career, and I’ll miss covering his teams. He was always such a gracious coach.

It sounds like he’ll be replaced by Dan Buchanan, but that has to be signed off on at tonight’s school board meeting. It’s a good hire. Dan’s a good guy and he’s got years of experience.
