Maize’s girls rallied from a five-point deficit in the fourth quarter Friday night to blitz visiting Newton 37-28, claiming the outright Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I championship.
Maize (18-2, 11-1 Division I) was held to six third-quarter points and trailed 26-21 heading into the final quarter. But the Eagles outscored Newton (12-8, 7-5) 16-2 in the quarter to keep Salina Central from tying for the division crown.
Paige Lungwitz scored 11 points, including 6 of 6 from the free-throw line, to lead Maize. Abbie Lehman’s eight points led Newton.

Andover 59, Goddard 33 — Audrey Meisch scored 15 points to help host Andover rout Goddard. Emily Rausch had nine for Goddard.
McPherson 63, Arkansas City 33 — The host Bullpups led 30-4 after one quarter and 45-6 at halftime. Abby Pedersen had 20 points and Ashton Bruner 17 for McPherson, while Mary Brantley led Arkansas City with 13 points.
Andover 52, Goddard 36 — The host Trojans improved to 13-7 behind a 24-point first quarter. Robert Peare had 15 to lead Andover.
Derby 71, Salina South 57 — The visiting Panthers completed an unbeaten run through Division I behind 25 points from Taylor Schieber and 20 from Kyler Steadman.
Maize 42, Newton 41 — Colby White scored 15 points and host Maize eked out victory from the foul line in the fourth quarter. Maize made 7 of 12 foul shots in the period. Jack Kingsley had 19 for Newton.
