Wecker, Simoneau to be inducted into Kansas Sports Hall of Fame

The list of Kansas Sports Hall of Fame inductees are below, but two stand out to me — Kendra Wecker and Mark Simoneau.

Wecker, a Marysville and Kansas State grad, was one of my favorite high school athletes to cover. I wrote about her as a sophomore and only saw her a few times a year, but she was such a wonderful person to be around. Her athleticism was ridiculous, but her personality was so special.

I didn’t cover Mark Simoneau while he was at Smith Center– he was already at Kansas State when I came to The Eagle — but I well remember his exploits with the Wildcats.

It’s good to see some stud athletes honored.

Along with Wecker and Simoneau, the other inductees are KU All-American basketball player Raef LaFrentz, former Emporia State track star John Camien, University of Kansas athletic director Bob Frederick, University of Kansas basketball coach Dick Harp, Wichita State All-American baseball pitcher Don Heinkel, Wichita State football coach Willie Jeffriesand Pittsburg State football All-AmericanRonnie West.  Frederick and Harp will be inducted posthumously.
