One of the favorite topics of the summer usually is regarding the upcoming football season.
So let’s chat about the top football players to watch for 2011. This is not meant as a comprehensive list, but rather one to get us thinking about the top players and spark some conversation.
The first football practice, after all, is less than eight weeks away.
Two of the state’s top players are definitely McPherson quarterback Ty Matthews (a Texas Christian commit) and Collegiate lineman Trace Clark.
Others to watch for — in no particular order – include W. Northwest’s Jacob Davis and Bennett Moore; Heights’ Matt Reed; Buhler’s Tanner Fisher and JP Lohrentz; Holton’s Trent Tanking; Hutchinson’s Jess Westmoreland; Blue Valley’s Justin Fulks; Brian Doffing, Conway Springs; Tanner Woods, Conway Springs; Markus Phox, Collegiate; Rose Hill’s Derrick Decker; Alex Bontz, Andover Central; Skyler Krehbiel (who I believe transferred from Kapaun to Northwest).
Again, this is not a comprehensive list and is primarily made up of those who were key contributors last season. So who is missing? Who will be the surprise? Who will be the stud we’re all talking about this season?
