Varsity Kansas

Softball (5-16)

(Today’s softball notes)

Softball regionals begin tonight, and I cannot wait. This area has some awesome softball — it’s why I try to see as many teams as possible because so many of them are outstanding.

Where are the toughest regionals? The easiest? Where will you be?

The Class 6A and 5A softball regionals can be found here. Although, the regional with Kapaun and Andover Central is actually on Wednesday. Regional pairings for 4A, 3A and 2-1A are here.

Class 4A has several tough regionals.

Monday—Maize South (10-10) vs. Hesston (11-9), 3 p.m.; Cheney (10-10) vs. Smoky Valley (12-8), 3; Buhler (10-10) vs. Haven (14-6), 4:30; Nickerson ( 9-11) vs. Andale (17-1), 4:30. Tuesday— Maize South-Hesston winner vs. Nickerson-Andale winner, 3 p.m.; Cheney-Smoky Valley winner vs. Buhler-Haven winner, 4:30; championship, 6.

**Maize South gave Andale its only loss this season

Monday—Circle (7-13) vs. Augusta (14-6), 4 p.m.; El Dorado (2-18) vs. Rose Hill (16-4), 4; Winfield (6-12) vs. Mulvane (15-5), 5:45; Wellington (7-13) vs. Clearwater (10-10), 5:45. Tuesday— Wellington-Clearwater winner vs. El Dorado-Rose Hill winner, 3 p.m.; Circle-Augusta winner vs. Winfield-Mulvane winner, 4:45; championship, 6:30.

**Rose Hill, Augusta and Mulvane are quality teams — all deserving of a state berth.

In 6A, there’s no team in the Maize regional –besides Maize (19-1)  — with a winning record. Goddard (19-1) could face Garden City (11-9).

In 5A, Valley Center (15-5) could meet Great Bend (16-4).

Carroll (18-2) gets a bye and is in the championship game — and it will be against a team with a losing record.

Andover Central (10-9) and Kapaun (14-6) could play for a state berth.
