It was a chilly day Saturday for state tennis, but that didn’t seem to affect the athletes.
Independent boys won their first Class 3-2-1A title, edging Collegiate by one point. Independent also won singles — sophomore Jake Norman won his second by defeating Collegiate’s Daniel Ritchie, while Jake Maddox and Sam McCoy won doubles.
In Class 4A, Maize South’s Hunter Tucker and Avery Emmert won the doubles title, while Smoky Valley won its third straight team title and Quinn Dippel won his second straight singles title.
In Class 5A, McPherson’s Cory Horton and Max Pyle won the doubles title. BV North’s Jack Sock finished his career undefeated and won his fourth singles title. I’m impressed with Jack Sock for sticking around for his senior season to play. That’s the kind of athletes I like to cover!
