I made the trip out to Mulvane today to watch the baseball team play El Dorado. This is a team that I have been meaning to see, and I figured there wasn’t too much time left with the season winding down.
Mulvane won the first game of its double-header 12-5. Mulvane jumped out on the El Dorado 7-1 after the first three innings. El Dorado lacked control on the mound and defensively, and Mulvane took advantage of its gifts with timely hits.
Wildcats batters were hit by pitchers 4 times during the first three innings, reached on errors twice. Guys like Gus Strunk and Alex Evans made the hits to drive in runners in scoring position.
El Dorado showed some life with a three-run fourth inning to cut its deficit to 7-4, but Mulvane responded with a three-run fourth of its own that was sparked by a 2 RBI single by Evans. Evans finished 2-for-2 with a sacrifice fly, and 3 RBIs.
Mulvane also cruised to win its second game 8-2 and improved to 13-3 on the season with a 7-1 record in the AV-CTL Division III.
Be sure to read the campus spotlight on baseball in Thursday’s paper for more coverage of Mulvane as it prepares for a run at the Class 4A title.
