Northwest boys took care of Maize in the Class 6A sub-state championship game at Dodge City tonight. Northwest shot nearly 50 percent from the floor, multiple players contributed, while Craig Nicholson had 20 points. (And yes, I drove 2.5 hours to Dodge City to watch Northwest and Maize play. Amazing, huh? Just as funny, there are three Wichita-area officials doing the Dodge-Hutch sub-state game.)
Northwest had an 18-0 run, part of a 24-2 run that gave the Grizzlies a 26-10 lead. Maize never got its inside game going with Derek Lee and Steven Wolgamott, which is where I thought Maize would have the edge.
In other action, Heights boys beat Southeast for the third time to advance to the Class 6A tournament.
