Heights girls legitimately No. 1

This weekend’s girls tournaments proved to be just what I needed to gain perspective on girls basketball around the state.

At the Newton invitational I got to see Newton, Olathe Northwest, Bishop Miege and Dodge City at their best.At the Mid America Classic at McPherson, Olathe South edged McPherson in a great game featuring one of the best teams in Class 5A and one of the best teams in Class 6A. Throughout the regular season I’ve seen Maize, Salina South, Andover, Carroll, Wichita Northwest and Southeast play.

Having seen all of the great team’s in action I feel like I can confidently say that  Wichita Heights is legitimately the No. 1 team in the state and will probably win the Class 6A title this season barring injuries. Not to take anything away from the defending Class 6A champs Olathe South, which is obviously talented with players like Natalie Knight and Megan Balcom with championship experience, but when it comes down to it Heights looks to be too athletic, too fast and zoned in to stumble this season.

Chime in and tell me what you think.
