Medaris, a freshman, is 13-3 this season in singles competition.
How do you like playing tennis in high school compared to middle school?
"In middle school there wasn't really any competition for me. Now I'm able to play against seniors in high school and they give me more competition. Last year I went undefeated and this year it's tougher."
How long have you been playing tennis?
"I picked up a racket when I was 3, and I'm 14 now. So about 10 or 11 years."
Is it something that you like doing or something your parents got you into?
"Well my dad got me into tennis, and if it wasn't for him I wouldn't be playing right now. He's always kind of pushed it, but I wouldn't be doing it if I didn't enjoy it. There was a time for like a year when I didn't play because I was getting so burnt out. But if I didn't like it and my dad was just forcing me to do it, then I wouldn't be doing the sport."
Can you see yourself going to college to play tennis?
"Yeah, I would like to go to college and play tennis. I want coaches to come to me and want me on their team. I wouldn't just want to walk on. I want to be good enough for people to know who I am."
What would be your dream school?
"Oklahoma. I'm a big Sooners fan and my dad went to college there. He played on the team. That's just kind of where I want to go. I've been to the college and I've seen the tennis courts and everything. But I haven't been to any football games yet."
