Varsity Kansas

Small-class football (9-27)

Conway Springs at Garden Plain last Friday night proved to me — yet again! — how much fun it is to go into towns where THE place to be is the high school football game. It was awesome to see all the fans from both schools there. Impressive followings, and fun folks.

That game also was part of a retinkering in Class 3A rankings. With No. 3 Conway Springs beating No. 1 ranked Garden Plain — and then Silver Lake losing to Louisburg — it was a night of changes.

Class 2-1A and the 8-Man divisions all stayed the same in the rankings, but I bumped Hutchinson Trinity up to No. 2, dropping Garden Plain and Silver Lake down to 3 and 4.

This week Hutchinson Trinity and Remington meet — I’m expecting a heckuva night of offense. These are some high-powered offenses with strong quarterbacks.

As for that Conway-Garden Plain game. I was so impressed with Conway Springs’ Cory Misak. What a stud. He’s so quick and has such a good eye for finding the holes.

Nice kid, too.

So who else should we be watching for this week? Pretty Prairie plays Macksville (ranked first and third), so that should be interesting.

Since 2-1A on down is nearly all in district play, who is standing out to you?
