East uses big play to sink Titans

As time expired in the first half, East quarterback Desmond McGee scrambled in the backfield, looking for any receiver.

With the South defense closing in quickly, McGee spotted a wide open C.J. Graham cutting across the middle of the field. McGee delivered a line-drive pass to Graham, who reversed direction and then weaved his way to a 42-yard touchdown on the way to a 27-6 win at Heights as the Blue Aces improved to 3-1.

"I thought I was going to get tackled," Graham said with a smile. "I just gave them a good move and I got the score."

Graham finished with 142 yards of offense and two touchdowns. The score before halftime came after South had cut East’s lead to 14-6 with a 5-yard touchdown run from Fredrick Cato with just 1:08 left before the break.

"It was the momentum we needed," East coach Brian Byers said of Graham's touchdown catch. "We gave up that touchdown, and I think that was on the coaches. We did a couple things defensively, trying a couple things we probably shouldn't have done, and we ended up giving them that score we shouldn't have."

East senior running back Eric Martin, who did not have a carry in the first half, put the finishing touch on the Blue Aces' win with a 49-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Martin led all rushers with 101 yards on six carries.

McGee finished 11-of-22 passing for 164 yards and two touchdowns.
