Recruiting update: Heights girls basketball

(Coaches, if you have players sign in any sport, please let me know. If you have players being offered Division I scholarships, please let me know. I will run any information that I get. If you want to e-mail, it’s jchadwick@wichitaeagle.com or call at 316-268-6270.)

Just wanted to update you on some recent recruiting news.

Heights senior Kamisha Richard has signed to play basketball at Houston Baptist, a Division I school.

Richard had a crazy situation earlier. She had committed and planned to sign with New Orleans, which then dropped down to Division III. No surprise, she didn’t sign. Congrats to Richard on getting that full ride.

This past season was kind of a down year in the area for girls basketball signees — or maybe the last few years were such big years.

But Heights has two other players on this team who have gotten Division I offers. Junior Jhasmin Bowen, an All-Metro and All-State selection, has been offered by Louisville, Wichita State, Indiana and Arkansas. Coach Kip Pulliam said that Oklahoma is close to offering, but like Nebraska, wants to get Bowen on campus to meet the players, first.

Louisville has been high on Bowen’s list and she plans to go to the Cardinals’ elite camp at the end of June.

She’s one of the few Wichita area girls to actually get offered by Wichita State in recent seasons.

Heights junior Tahlia Pope just picked up her second offer, this one from LaSalle. She’s also been offered by South Florida, and Pulliam said South Carolina, Rice and Louisville seem close to offering.

If there are other offers of Division I scholarships or other recruiting news/signings, please let me know. I definitely want to include as much as possible, for all sports.
