The Kansas City Chiefs, long an annual staple on Monday Night Football, defeated the Chargers 21-14 at Arrowhead Stadium to open their season Monday night.
It was the first time in five seasons the Chiefs had played in one of the NFL's premier regular-season showcase games.
That year the Chiefs, coming off a 7-9 season in 2004, played the Broncos in Denver in Week 4. Denver beat the Chiefs 30-10.

Their last win, prior to last week, came in 2004, when they defeated the Titans 49-38 in Tennessee in December.
Arrowhead's last MNF game was in Nov. 2004, when the Chiefs lost to the Super Bowl champion Patriots 27-19.
Kansas City last won a home MNF game in Oct. 2000, when Elvis Grbac led the Chiefs to a 24-17 win over Jon Kitna and the Seattle Seahawks.
The Chiefs have a 20-15 record in the 40-year history of MNF.
Their .571 winning percentage is eighth best among franchises.
