Brent Clevlen’s two-run homer in the top of the ninth gave the Wingnuts an 8-6 win over Amarillo on Friday night in Amarillo, Texas.
Jose Duran led off the ninth with a double, and moved to third on Josh Horn’s sacrifice bunt. With the infield in, Ryan Patterson hit a grounder to second and Duran had to hold at third. Clevlen then came through with a blast over the 30-foot fence in right-center.
The Sox put the tying runs on base against Josh Dew with one in the bottom of the ninth, but Wichita third baseman Juan Richardson made a lunging catch of a line drive and scrambled to third ahead of Amarillo’s Cyle Hankerd for a game-ending double play.
Jared Simon (2 -1) picked up the win with 2Ð innings of scoreless relief.
Horn, Juan Delgado and Edwin Bellorin had three hits apiece.
