Juan Richardson's two-run single in the 10th inning drove in Josh Horn and Ryan Patterson with the go-ahead runs as the Wingnuts beat Amarillo 5-3 in the season-opener Thursday night in Amarillo, Texas.
Nick Singleton, Wichita's top pitcher last season until a broken finger cut his season short, started and went five innings.
Five Wingnuts relievers combined for five scoreless innings. Cephas Howard got the final out in the ninth and picked up the win. Josh Dew retired the side on eight pitches in the 10th and earned the save.
Former American Association All-Star Dan Grybash will start tonight for the Wingnuts. He missed all of last season following elbow surgery.
