Wingnuts can't overcome three errors

Sioux City broke a tie with a five-run seventh inning and beat the Wingnuts 7-3 on Friday in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Wingnuts were their own worst enemy, leaving 12 men on base, and committing three errors that led to six unearned runs.

All five seventh inning runs were unearned. A throwing error by Michael Bell on a rundown between third and home let one run score, then a fielding error by Bell with two outs let a second run score and kept the inning alive a hit batter with the bases loaded pushed another run across, then Steve Pearson — traded from the Wingnuts to the Explorers on Thursday — hit a two-run single.

Pearson, the last remaining member of the Wingnuts' opening-day roster from their inaugural season in 2008, was traded for right-handed pitcher Jae Jung.

Wichita also signed 36-year-old outfielder Raul Gonzalez, who played for the Wichita Wranglers in the mid-1990s. Gonzalez spent parts of five seasons in the major leagues with three teams, and had been playing in the Mexican League this season.
