Wingnuts rally for win over Pelicans

The Wingnuts rallied from three runs down to beat the Pensacola Pelicans 6-4 on Saturday in Pensacola, Fla.

Wichita trailed 4-1 entering the sixth. The Wingnuts got one run back when Mike Bell hit a one-out double and scored on a single by Jorge Delgado. The made it 4-3 in the eighth when Delgado hit a two-out single, the scored on a double by Jeff Christy.

Jorge Cortes, Ryan Patterson and Carlos Rivera led off the ninth with consecutive singles to load the bases against All-Star closer Ron Hill. After Bell struck out, Cesar Suarez gave Wichita the lead with a slow roller to the left side that Hill grabbed and throw errantly into right field. Suarez was credited with a single.

Jeff Christy followed with a single to score Rivera.

Brandon Mathes and Dustin Pease combined for 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. Justin Dowdy worked a perfect ninth for his 17th save.
