Newcomers Carlos Rivera and Cesar Suarez each had a pair of hits to help the Wingnuts beat the Pensacola Pelicans 7-4 on Thursday in Pensacola.
Rivera hit a home run in the third inning. Suarez singled and scored during Wichita's four-run eighth inning.
Joe Spiers and Jorge Delgado added two hits apiece as the Wingnuts amassed 12 hits.
The Wingnuts scored two in the first and added a run in the third to stake Nick Singleton to a 3-0 lead. Singleton allowed two runs in the fifth, then Pensacola tied the scored in the sixth with a run against Wichita reliever Jacob Wiley.
Dustin Pease pitched a scoreless seventh inning and picked his fourth win of the season when his teammates scored four in the eighth. Justin Dowdy got the final two outs for his 15th save.
The additions of Rivera and Suarez were part of a flurry of moves Thursday.
The Wingnuts activated Josh Horn, signed first baseman Rivera, traded infielder Jose Duran to Fort Worth for Suarez, traded outfielder Eric Williams to Sioux City for a player to be named later and released Mario Delgado.
Rivera, 32, played 85 games in the majors in 2003-04. He has played 104 games this season in the Mexican League with a .373 average, 16 homers and 82 RBIs. Suarez began the season in the Dodgers organization and had played 19 games with Fort Worth with a .273 average.
Horn had been out since July 18 with an ankle injury. He did not play Thursday.
