Malcolm Cameron will be named coach of the Wichita Thunder during a Friday press conference, according to a team source.

Cameron, 46, replaces Kevin McClelland, whose contract wasn’t renewed after three straight losing seasons. McClelland guided the Thunder to consecutive Central Hockey League finals appearances in 2012 and 2013.

Cameron last coached in 2014 for the Regina (Canada) Pats of the Western Hockey League, a junior league with teams in Western Canada and the northwestern United States.

Cameron spent seven seasons as an ECHL coach with four teams from 2004-11. He reached the playoffs six times and never lost in the first round, leading Texas to a league-record 52-9 record in 2007-08.
