Red-hot Thunder beats Mavericks again

The Thunder scored three goals in less than eight minutes during the second period and defeated the Missouri Mavericks 4-3 on Wednesday night in Independence, Mo., the second win in as many nights over the Mavericks.

The Thunder took a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the game on a goal by Mike Wilson. The Mavericks tied the scored at 12:08 of the first period.

Missouri took a 2-1 lead on John Rutherford’s goal at 9:54 of the second period.

Wichita tied the score 20 seconds later when Ian Lowe scored with an assist from Ian Duval, then took a 3-2 lead at the 16-minute mark on defenseman Eric Meland’s second goal of the season. Todd Hosmer made it 4-2 with a goal less than two minutes later.

The Thunder has won six of its last second games, with the only loss coming in a shootout, and has moved into second place in the ECHL Central Division.
