Mississippi uses late surge to top Thunder

The Wichita Thunder lost 4-1 to the Mississippi RiverKings on Sunday in Southhaven, Miss.

Mississippi's R.G. Flath and Brennan Sarazin scored 10 seconds apart midway through the third period to break a 1-1 tie.

Flath scored by knocking in a rebound near the crease with 9:08 to play, while Sarazin drove to the net on the ensuing faceoff and put the puck past Wichita goaltender Marc-Antoine Gelinas.

Daniel Tetrault tied the score for the Thunder in the third period on a power-play goal.

Gelinas stopped 30 of 33 shots in the loss, which came on his 22nd birthday. Larry Sterling led the Riverkings by stopping 33 of 34 shots.

Both teams were 1 for 7 on the power play.

Next up, Wichita travels to Bossier-Shreveport for a Tuesday game. The Thunder return home Friday to take on Mississippi.
