Thunder ties CHL loss mark with 21st straight

The Wichita Thunder tied the Central Hockey League record for consecutive losses, losing to the Allen Americans 4-2 on Saturday in Allen, Texas, for the team's 21st consecutive setback.

The Thunder led 1-0 in the first period and 2-1 in the second period, but was unable to hold off Allen. Both Thunder goals came on power plays, ending a nine-game drought with a man advantage.

The first-period goal, by Joel Hanson, came at the 7:13 mark. Brad Thompson, playing his first game since returning from the 14-day injured reserve list, put Wichita up 2-1 at 15:06 of the second. Allen tied the score 26 seconds later.

Allen took the lead at 2:46 of the third period, and scored its final go into an empty net with one second left.

The Thunder successfully killed all nine Americans power plays, including a four-minute double minor.

Wichita goalie Ian Kesserich made 40 saves.

The Thunder returns to action Thursday at Bossier City, La., then returns home for its first game at Intrust Bank Arena next Saturday.
