Football

Kansas State's home game with Central Florida on Sept. 25 is set for an 11:30 a.m. kickoff that will be televised by Fox Sports Kansas City, Ch. 34.

The decision by FSKC to televise the game means K-State's next four games will be on television. The Wildcats open Big 12 play Saturday against Iowa State at Arrowhead Stadium on FSKC.

On Oct. 9, K-State will face Nebraska on ESPN, and on Oct. 16 it will play Kansas on FSKC.

* Kansas senior Justin Springer was named Big 12 defensive player of the week after his 15-tackle performance in the Jayhawks' 28-25 win over then-No. 15 Georgia Tech.

In other Big 12 awards, Oklahoma QB Landry Jones was the offensive player of the week after completing 30 of 40 passes for 380 yards and four touchdowns in the 10th-ranked Sooners' 47-17 rout of No. 17 Florida State. The special teams player of the week was Texas Tech's Eric Stephens, who had 175 kickoff-return yards, including a 93-yard TD, in the Red Raiders' win at New Mexico.

* Former Kapaun Mount Carmel lineman David Arkin was named Missouri Valley Football Conference lineman of the week after his performance against Kansas State on Saturday.

Tennis

Wichita State's Lutfiana Budiharto is No. 36 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's preseason women's rankings. The doubles team of Delia Damaschin and Veronika Blaskvoa are No. 55.

Golf

Wichita State sophomore Tyler Gann is tied for eighth place in the Sam Hall Intercollegiate after the first round in Hattiesburg, Miss. Gann shot a 2-under-par 140. WSU is in 10th place after 36 holes with a 2-over 570. Kennesaw State is in first place with a 559. WSU's Matt Helm is tied in 20th place with a 141. The 15-team field plays the final round today.

* Wichita State's women's team finished took second place at the Redbird Invitational in Normal, Ill., on Sunday. The Shockers shot a 919 to finish six strokes behind Illinois State. Lauren Hassell finished third with a 225. Adin Stromgren finished fifth, two shots behind Hassell.

VOLLEYBALL

WSU libero Sarah Waldorf was named Missouri Valley Conference defensive player of the week. She averaged 5.70 digs per set, including a career-high total of 36 against BYU

* Northern Iowa (8-2) moved up one spot to No. 17 in the coaches poll. Missouri State received three points.

MEDIA

Los Angeles city prosecutors have charged AOL Fanhouse sports columnist Jay Mariotti, a regular panelist on ESPN's Around The Horn, with seven misdemeanors in connection with a domestic disturbance last month involving his girlfriend.

Charges include two counts of domestic violence with injury, two counts of domestic violence, one count of grand theft, one count of false imprisonment and one count of vandalism.
