Former Derby player Kara Foster broke the Mountain West Conference home run record last week for Utah. Foster, a senior, hit a seventh-inning homer against New Mexico on Thursday for her 62nd career home run. She added another Friday against Colorado State.

* Wichita State's Kasha Kolb was named the MVC pitcher of the week after going 4-0 with a 1.36 ERA in a win over Kansas and three wins over Bradley.

* Friends catcher Nicole Bauer was named the KCAC player of the year, and teammate Cara Russell was named pitcher of the year. Ottawa's Jay Kahnt was named coach of the year.

FOOTBALL

Kansas State backup running back John Hubert was arrested by campus police on suspicion of battery Sunday afternoon at a K-State residence hall.

Hubert is a redshirt freshman from Waco, Texas, who is expected to compete for playing time on special teams next season.

Bowling

ESPN2 will show Wichita State's men's USBC Intercollegiate Team Championship at 8 p.m., Wednesday. The Shockers defeated Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) on April 17 in El Paso, Texas. ESPN2 will also rebroadcast the match at 1 p.m., Saturday and 9:30 p.m., May 11.

LACROSSE

A senior on the Virginia men's lacrosse team was charged Monday with the slaying of a fellow student on the women's team, stunning students at the picturesque campus in Charlottesville, Va.

George Huguely, 22, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of 22-year-old Yeardley Love, also a senior, Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy Longo said.

Longo said Love's roommate called police around 2:15 a.m. concerned that Love may have had an alcohol overdose, but police found her dead with obvious physical injuries.

"It was quickly apparent to them that this young lady was the victim of something far worse," Longo said.

The police chief said that Huguely and Love were in a relationship at some point and that Huguely quickly became the focus. Longo would not detail the extent of Love's injuries, but said there did not appear to be any weapons used in the slaying.

BASKETBALL

The Chicago Bulls are set to announce coach Vinny Del Negro's firing, according to multiple reports.

WBBM-TV along with the Chicago Tribune and ESPNChicago.com, citing sources, reported that a formal announcement will be made today.

The Bulls went 41-41 and made the postseason in each of their two seasons under Del Negro, losing to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in five games after pushing Boston in a thrilling seven-game series last year.

BASEBALL

Kansas junior pitcher T.J. Walz has been named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week. Walz struck out a season-high 11 Cowboys and took a no-hitter into the ninth inning to earn his team-leading seventh victory of the season Friday at Oklahoma State.
